Determining if a sub-culture is uniform or not, relates to Martin ’s (1992) differentiated perspective calls for consensus within the sub-culture. Our observations—to some degree—support this; however, this book has a different objective that regards how industry creates knowledge. The central argument for the importance of this difference is that the way people create knowledge influences how they reach consensus within the sub-culture. In addition, this insight will deepen understandings of each sub-culture from within and how knowledge differences emerge.

One widely used method for analysis in structural mechanics is the Finite Element Method Analysis (FEM analysis) , used for dynamic stressed construction components. As Moaveni notes: ‘The finite element method is a numerical procedure that can be applied to obtain solutions to a variety of problems in engineering. Steady, linear, or nonlinear problems in stress analysis … may be analyzed’ (2003, p. 6). This means that a problem is divided into nodes and elements that split the global piece for analysis into small parts or elements. Each element is assumed to have a shape function in order to have a representation for its physical behavior. An equation is then developed for every element. The next step is to assemble every equation for every element, and then construct the global piece mathematically. This is done in the global stiffness matrix. Boundary conditions, such as the initial condition and loads, are then considered (Moaveni, 2003). By using computer power to calculate the different equations, how the dynamic forces affect an object can be seen visually (Fig. 5.1):
